Prince Tsugunomiya Akihito toured the Nankai Plant

Prince Tsugunomiya Akihito (the present Emperor) toured the Nankai Plant

On January 6, 1948, Prince Tsugunomiya Akihito (the present Emperor) toured the Nankai Plant in Chiba. The President Manabu Matsumoto and the Plant Director Tatsuo Ohno guided him for inspection of the manufacturing process for sweetened milk powder.

Infant milk formula went back to sweetened milk powder

Sweetened milk powder

World War II brought on government control and rationing of supplies, and infant milk formula was ordered to switch to sweetened milk powder with 15% or 30% milk solids. Due to wartime supply shortages, it was important to securing quantity as rationed food, rather than quality. Container cans are also in short supply. They bore a label that read, “Recycle the used cans to make something useful” or “Will pay 10-sen in exchange for a returned can.”
